Every year, millions of windows are bought by homeowners. When someone is in the market for new windows, they will go to the store, where they are greeted by a commissioned employee. Homeowners have to be able to deal with some of the most common sales techniques used by sash window sales people at the store.

Initial Contact

Homeowners will often travel to a window store to see what type of windows they can choose from. When the homeowner enters the door, they will be greeted by an employee. Many times, the clerks take turns when working with customers who come in to the store. At that time, the clerk will ask a couple of questions to test the waters if the customers are just looking, or if they are serious.

Talking to Couples

When a couple enters the store, and starts to work with an employee, the clerk will often ask the couple questions to get a feel of who wears the pants in the relationship. An example is if the husband looks for support to the wife for answers, and vice versa. The employees will set their sights on the person answering all the questions.

Children

Parents often times take their children to the store. Commissioned clerks will often ask questions like a kid does to their parents. The questions they ask are usually two questions in one, so they try to close the sale. One example is will they be putting their order on credit, or will they be paying out-of-pocket.

Silent Treatment

If a clerk has experience, they will remain in the background until the customer is ready to ask questions. This will show to the customer that there is no pressure in buying the windows. Once the clerk determines that the customers are ready to order is when they will speak up.

The Up-sell

Since people who work on commission only, they will often try to up-sell the order. An example would be if the customer orders single pane windows, they will ask if the customer wants double pane windows. This is how they make the larger commissions.

It is important to remember some of the most common sales techniques used by Sash Window Sales people when buying windows. Even though they can answer every question, they do work on commission only. It is best to come in ready with a list of questions, than not being prepared of what to ask for.
